Note:
By Tanner's son. Uses Universal Atlas map of Philadelphia. Publications by Tanner's son Henry Jr. are not common. He is listed as publisher of several of H.S. Tanner's works in the early 1840's (see 1842 Traveler's Guide and 1841 "Central States") but this is the only work we have seen where he is the author as well. Excellent 36 page catalogue of "Maps and Geographical Works for sale by H. Tanner, Jun'r. Philadelphia." The works listed are all the H.S. Tanner publications. It appears that Tanner's sons, T.R. Tanner and H. Tanner, Jun'r. divided the business between New York and Philadelphia respectively and took over responsibility for selling H.S. Tanner's products , and others, from 1840 until around 1850. T.R. was in partnership with John Disturnell for a time in the early 1840's (see Tanner and Disturnell). Map and guide are in brown cloth covers 13x8.5 with "Philadelphia City Guide. 1841" stamped in gold.
