First edition listed by Modelski is 1857. With an inset map of the New England States and vignettes of an eagle and steam engine above the title. A publisher's notice states "The publishers of this map intend printing small editions at a time in order that additions may be made as Railroads are completed. They will feel under obligation to Contractors, Superintendents & others who will forward to their address reliable information respecting Proposed or Completed Railroads." Outline color by state. Folded into dark brown cloth covers 15.5x10 with the title "The American Railway Map Showing The Depots & Stations. Ensign, Bridgman & Fanning." and an illustration of an eagle and American flag stamped in gilt.
