Note:
This is a strip map extending from the Mississippi River to San Francisco, following the Union Pacific and Central Pacific Railroads. It is derived from Colton's Map of the States and Territories West of the Mississippi River. It is folded accordion style into dark brown cloth covers 9.5x16.5 with "Colton's Map Of The Pacific Railroad Route From The Mississippi River To The Pacific Ocean. G.W. & C.B. Colton & Co." stamped in gilt. The cover title is printed along the long dimension of the covers with the binding along the top edge. It is not mentioned in any Colton catalogs of the period and is probably scarce. Prime meridians are Greenwich and Washington D.C. Relief shown by hachures.
