Streeter's copy with his notes in pencil: "An unusually good large scale map..." In green cloth covers with an interesting printed sheet on the inside cover dated June 15, 1856, promoting Whitman and Searl's land business. Three inset views. This was an early map for settlers and speculators. Inset map shows in detail the area around Ft. Riley, "The Geographical Centre of U.S. Possessions." The roads to California, Oregon, and Santa Fe are shown, with 13 Indian reservations taking up about a fifth of the area of the map. This is a very detailed map and very elegant. All the township and range lines completed to date are shown, making this a useful map for locating land claims. Map is folded into stamped green cloth covers 16x10 with "Township Map Of Eastern Kansas" in gold. Indian reservations are indicated by color.
