Additions are primarily the rapid growth of railroads in the state, especially in the western parts. The Western Railroad is shown to the New York State line. Both this and the 1840 issue say "3d edition" in the title. With the signature of J.B. Gould, the father of Jay Gould, the famous financier, on the inside cover (see DAB). Folded into stamped dark green cloth covers 13.5x8.5 with "Dearborn's Map Of Massachusetts" in gilt.
