Although the map is date 1849, it has been updated from the 1849 map in the 1849 edition of the guide: Sacramento and Benicia appear on the small inset map of the California gold region and many railroads have been extended on the main map. Text is unchanged. Outline color. Covers are black stamped leather with "Mitchell's New Traveller's Guide Through The United States" and a beautiful illustration of a steam boat and train stamped in gilt. Prime meridian is Washington D.C.
