Maury was one of the first cartographers to study and show winds and currents systematically on charts. The sixth edition, the first being 1855. This was a popular work that went through twelve editions. Maury also made large wind and sea charts of the North Atlantic (15 sheets) and the North Pacific (10 sheets).
