12th annual Tour de France but also the last for five years because of World War I. On the starting day of the race departing Paris, Franz Ferdinand, the Archduke of Austria, was assassinated, starting the First World War. The race was dominated and won by Phillipe Thys. At least three of the men who dominated the previous tours (1907-1910) perished in the war. Bicolor map of the race route; on verso are lists of teams, individuals, and route stage details. Individual or "isolated" cyclists competed at the same time as teams but competed for a separate championship.
