Note:
Richly detailed historical pictorial map whose themes are summarized in its cartouche. Shows state lines, major bodies of water and rivers, and Native American settlements. Places the emphasis on historical events, which are labeled throughout, and lines indicating the routes taken by various explorers of the continent both on land and at sea. Short essays on "The Frontier," "The Explorers" and early U.S. political history beginning in 1776 are included in inset boxes below the U.S. map. On border: "That this nation under god shall have a new birth of freedom and that government of the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth".
